Strategic intent occurs when leadership reaches beyond what they know is achievable and followers consistently witness this new positive obsession. Strategic intent occurs when leadership commits to step out of their comfort and safety zones to take risks beyond their current resources and capabilities. Before leadership can move the organization to an obsessive commitment of strategic intent, leaders must daily live the obsession; followers will only commit to the challenges they see the leaders reciprocally living. Leaders will need to expand their traditional thinking to long-term strategic thinking. They will need to expand their thinking about their resources and capabilities.
